Reviews from past students
For me, studying for the MCAT was remarkably daunting, so I was willing to do whatever it took to score at least a 508 to be a competitive applicant. I first started with an online prep course at one of the "big two." Honestly, they did an OK job covering the content. I was able to re-learn concepts from general chemistry and biochemistry that I had forgotten. However, when it came to practicing and applying the concepts, I was utterly lost. I couldn’t translate what I had learned in the classroom to get questions correct on the practice tests. Which is what the MCAT will test you on. That's where NuevoPrep shinned. With the online sessions, I learned how to break down science articles that tend to be both convoluted and full of jargon. With the practice provided by NuevoPrep I grasped the necessary skills to (1) slow down, (2) reach carefully, and (3) focus on the main overarching idea. There was also more than enough data/chart analysis practice - a skill absolutely necessary for the bio/biochem section. Overall, I built a lot of confidence in me, and I started to see it reflected in practice tests. I am beyond pleased with my decision to go with NuevoPrep and would highly recommend it to anyone struggling with the MCAT.Extremely grateful to have had the opportunity to work with NuevoPrep on the MCAT.
I hate to admit it but I have regularly been one of those gunner-types (taking the easiest general education classes for the GPA boost while also making sure I chose the best professors for my prereqs) and as a result, maintained nearly a 3.8 throughout my undergraduate career. My goal was to score 520 or higher on the MCAT so that I could get into a top 15-20 medical school. Becuase of this, I was torn between taking a traditional prep class or to self-study. I decided on enrolling in an online prep course but did not want to spend nearly two thousand dollars. After researching my options, I came across NuevoPrep. I was almost convinced after seeing their methods, results, and resources. If you want to attend a top medical school, you need to have a very competitive MCAT, and in my opinion, NuevoPrep is the best place to get it.A must-have supplement to self-study.
PLEASE READ this review if you are hesitant on taking this course. Don't make the mistake that I did. The first time I took the MCAT, I used a set of books and relied solely on the 15 questions after each chapter - thinking I understood what I just read. I self-studied using a study plan that was posted on SDN. It became increasingly challenging to keep up with the study plan and at times felt what I was reading was overkill. I went into information overload and for that reason overlooked the "big idea" for a lot of important concepts which penalized me when I sat for my first exam. I was devastated after scoring a 500. I knew that I could achieve a higher score with time and more effort. I heard about NuevoPrep though a lab partner of mine and was reluctant at first because it did not have the same name recognition of other prep companies, but my lab partner kept raving about it - I decided to give it a shot. This was one of the best decisions that I have made in quite a while. I was able to make a study plan that worked for me and learned how to use the flashcard app "Anki." They have created "workshops" that address the intricacies that make the MCAT so tricky. Like I said in the beginning, do not waste months of studying on your own. Study with NuevoPrep.I wish I knew about this course the first time around.
